Waxy O’Connors is set to open a fabulous new restaurant at Ballito Lifestyle Centre at the end of October 2024, bringing the warmth and charm of a true South African Irish pub and restaurant to the heart of Ballito.
According to owners, Christo Patinios and Felix Schmitz, Ballito can expect an authentic Irish restaurant founded on the principles of congeniality, good food, and the indispensable Irish stout: Guinness. “In true Irish spirit, Waxy O’Connors is where you can kick back, relax and enjoy your meal and the music,” they said. “Our robust dishes on our Irish-inspired menu are a great accompaniment to the quintessential ale, Guinness, or any other drink for that matter.” The venue will also offer a wide variety of both imported and local draught beer, including Castle Tank beer. “This beer is probably the freshest beer in the country and is delivered from the brewery in a dedicated “Fresh Beer” truck, straight to our 500 litre copper tanks at Waxys, and into your glass,” the business partners enthused.
“The area vacated by Robsons and Art Eye will make way for this exciting new offering,” said Bruce Rencken, co-owner of Lifestyle Centre. “The redesign will create a seamless integration between The Market and Waxys, then wrap around into Eat Street. The restaurant design will create a number of unique spaces, including casual outdoor seating, cosy booth seating, a King’s table and even a private function room.” Rencken is excited about the synergies between the Waxy O’Connors brand and the Lifestyle Centre brand. “Established in 2001, Waxys is a family-owned brand with five authentic Irish restaurants in KZN,” he explained. “The family are very hands on in the operations, are passionate about our province, run brilliant restaurants and have a very similar vision and values to ours. At Waxys, customers are invited to kick back, relax and unwind, a sentiment which aligns perfectly with The Market and Eat Street.”
During the transition period of the redesign, FISH, Yolis and Science of Coffees will service The Market with liquor.
“Although this is an extensive redevelopment of the space, we have planned to ensure the least amount of disruption as possible. It’s a case of ‘short term pain for long term gain’ as we look forward to Waxys adding significantly to the customer experience in The Market and providing another great dining option on Eat Street,” said Rencken.
