Officially launched on 5th June in collaboration with First Thursdays at the Studios Biophilia brings together a curated selection of local artists whose work reflects the profound impact nature has on our physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Through painting, sculpture, mixed media, and installation, the exhibition invites visitors to pause and reflect on the vital role nature plays in our lives—and the ways we can welcome more of it into our homes, routines, and shared spaces.

Taking its name from the term coined by biologist E.O. Wilson, Biophilia celebrates the human instinct to connect with the living world. From lush landscapes and organic textures to meditative reflections and eco-conscious themes, the exhibition is a sensory experience designed to ground, inspire, and restore.

“We wanted to create a space that not only showcases art, but also encourages reflection on how deeply intertwined our well-being is with the natural environment,” says Sarah O’Reilly, curator of the exhibition.

“Each piece invites viewers to pause, breathe, and consider how nature is not something separate from us—it’s part of us.”

The exhibition will be running from 5 June to 3 August 2025. The Gallery is located at The Studios, Lifestyle Centre, Ballito. Open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
